Tune in to hear us connect with Melinda and Uma from @lets.sync.health about periods & sexual health.Let's Sync is a platform & community to learn and chat on all things gender and health in an open, inclusive, and encouraging way. Friendship Life-Cycles

Recently we've experienced some changes in our approach to friendships and the life cycles of friendships themselves. Whether this is due to our age creeping through the mid-twenties, the long distance we're experiencing between more and more of our friendships, or even the general lack of time we feel with work taking up a larger part of our work day, making new friends and balancing time between friendships is becoming a bigger challenge in our day to day. Today we discuss how we've been dealing with all of these things and share some of the ways we've been tackling changes in our personal friendship as well! This is the last episode of 2021! Thank you so much for your support and love, and for hanging out with us every Wednesday this year. We will be back with a new season on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, so keep your eyes peeled for a fresh episode from us! In the meantime, feel free to keep up with us on Instagram

An Honest Conversation on Salaries

Disclaimer: This episode focuses on Bay Area cost of living and average salaries. We recognize that location is a huge factor in the variance of salaries/pay rates. Parents often tell their kids not to talk about money because it’s rude, without explaining why they think it’s rude. But growing up, it’s not difficult to realize why having conversations about money are so awkward. In a capitalistic society where money = merit and money = power, we start to evaluate our own self-worth and happiness on money. Today we wanted to have an open, vulnerable conversation about our salaries and how we manage our money as 24 year olds in the San Francisco Bay Area. While we don’t believe this episode should be a “guide” to managing money (we are noobs, please do your own research), we hope our honesty about our anxiety around salaries, saving, and investing ring true with many of you :) Follow us on insta!

CW: We discuss heavy topics such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, and r*pe culture in this episode. If you live in California, or are a big fan of video games, you may have seen the resurgence of the Me Too movement where many brave women are coming forward to share their story of sexual assault. Many of these women were assaulted by famous video game content creators, but many were made victims by their own friends and peers. While it is painful to hear accounts of sexual assault, we believe it’s imperative to examine what perpetuates this behavior. In American media, we often see misogynstic values or gender stereotypes that normalize predatory behavior towards women. And as consumers of American media, it can often be difficult not to internalize these thoughts in ourselves as well.Today we tackle what we call “rape culture”, or societal attitudes towards gender and sexuality that increases the prevalence of rape.

#BLM: Becoming Better Allies

The Asian-American community has often been criticized for staying quiet. Not only is this visible in our low political engagement or silence in the face of flagrant social problems, our complicity (inadvertent or not) is also quite strikingly symbolized in Officer Tou Thao’s complicity in the murder of George Floyd. While this movement has motivated a lot of Asian-Americans to take action, the various methods of support have received some criticism, including call-outs of performative allyship and stealing the spotlight from the black community. Today we discuss the different forms of support we’ve seen in our community, share thoughts on what it takes to become a better ally, and navigate how to turn our support into long-term, sustainable allyship. #BLM: Asians Calling Out Asians (including ourselves)

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by a white cop as an Asian-American officer and two others stood by without intervening. This is not an isolated incident - this is just one example of how the American justice system has failed the black community time and time again. To us, the Asian-American officer who stood by watching, is also a symbol. Anti-blackness has been rampant in the Asian-American community for a long time. We want to help change that. Through one uncomfortable conversation at a time, including a conversation with ourselves to reflect on our own racial bias, we believe that as non-black POC, we have the responsibility to help change the world for our black brothers and sisters. The purpose of this episode is to share our efforts in being a good ally. For us, that starts with calling out racism in ourselves and working on unlearning our own racial bias. We also share our experiences on navigating uncomfortable conversations about racism with our family members and our friends, and hope it can encourage anyone in similar situations to start these conversations as well. They left behind their parents, their loved ones, their closest friends. They are immigrants, and they are our everyday inspirations. Today we dive deep into our parents’ immigration journeys, and discuss our experiences growing up with immigrant parents - from everything to being embarrassed about their broken English, to learning to express love through every way except saying the L word.*NOTES*12:00 Sponsorship, ok Crystal clarified with her mom: a sponsor was needed if you were going to school in the new country and needed a student visa (Crystal's parents were enrolling in Canadian university to get their Canadian master degrees). A Day In The Life of Passion

Most newly working adults could probably relate - after the fluttering unfamiliarity of your first adult job dissipates, your 9-6 work schedule (how is that even legal anyways?!) with your 2-3 hour commute (which is terrible for your back) leaves you with no energy to do anything else except scroll through social media for 3 hours on your couch until you finally drag yourself to go shower. Trying to fit in all of your errands and housework on the weekends is easy enough, until you realize you need to leave time to hang out with your friends, hit the gym, maintain some hobbies. Today we discuss how we keep our brains fresh and our hearts passionate as modern day working adults. Visit us at eatyourcrust.com for special content.Reach out to us

A Little Privacy PLS

Find My Friends, Facebook ads, spam calls… They’re always watching you! Today we talk about how to find that perfect sweet spot between technology and privacy (if it even exists).*NOTES*16:13 “websites where you type in your name and address comes up” - Spokeo is one of the more well-known sites that store such information. 18:55 Facebook scandal is referring to what started with the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and has grown into a whole debacle over what companies can and can't do (and what they actually are doing) with our individual information. Now Facebook is tied up in various controversies and more scandals, honestly we can barely keep up now too.32:55 "use that voice" meaning the spam callers record your voice on the phone.37:25 If you want to see the videos of people hacking the spam callers' computers,YouTuber Kitboga has a collection of spam caller revenge videos.38:35 "receiving a gift card from spam callers" was remembered slightly wrong here; what happened was people would use the scam caller's tactics right back at them. Kitboga once again has an example of this.44:20 "deep fakes" are referring to convincingly doctored videos/images/audio using artificial intelligence (and often, an NVIDIA graphics card).
